Use these shortcuts in the desktop app. The tables show the default bindings; Cmd means Command (⌘) on macOS. Press Cmd + / on macOS or Ctrl + / on Windows and Linux to see the current shortcuts, including your custom bindings.

Work in a conversation

Conversation shortcuts apply to the active conversation or Code session. The send and line-break keys follow Settings → Composer → Send shortcut. If you choose Cmd + Enter or Ctrl + Enter to send, plain Enter inserts a line break; Shift + Enter also inserts a line break. While a run is active, hold Option on macOS or Alt on Windows and Linux with your send shortcut to reverse Queue or Interrupt for that message. For example, with the default send shortcut and Queue selected, Option + Enter or Alt + Enter sends the message into the current run at the next model turn.

Manage Code panes

The terminal shortcut uses the backtick key. Pane shortcuts apply to the Code workspace. Closing a pane leaves the application window open.

Customize shortcuts

  1. Open Settings → Keyboard shortcuts.
  2. Select the key combination beside a command, then press the new combination.
  3. Press Esc to cancel recording, or Backspace or Delete to disable that shortcut.
The app rejects combinations assigned to another command or reserved by the app. Only the commands listed in these settings can be reassigned here; configure the message-send shortcut separately in Composer. After you customize a binding, Restore the defaults removes all shortcut customizations. The in-app shortcut reference reflects your current bindings.

Settings lists the current bindings for navigation and session search.

Try a keyboard-driven workflow

Use Cmd + 2 on macOS or Ctrl + 2 on Windows and Linux to open Code, then Cmd + N or Ctrl + N for a new session. Choose the project and model before typing a request. Use Shift + Enter to separate the problem, constraints, and expected result onto different lines. Once you have several sessions, Cmd + K or Ctrl + K opens search and actions. Type part of a session name or action, use the arrow keys to select a result, and press Enter. Press Esc to close the palette. Within a long conversation, use the conversation search shortcut to find a particular error or test result.

If a shortcut does not work

Check the in-app shortcut reference first: it shows customized bindings rather than only the defaults listed here. Some actions require a Code session or multiple panes, and the send shortcut is configured separately under Composer. Focus the relevant conversation or pane before trying again. The VS Code extension uses VS Code’s own command bindings. Change those in VS Code’s keyboard settings; the desktop shortcut editor does not reassign them. For help with errors or interrupted work, see Usage and troubleshooting.
